September 2010 UPDATES

I apologize for the slow updates. I've been very busy and going through a lot of stuff.
I just made a bunch of posts in the COTD FAN blog and I made some changes and additions to the COTD FAN site.

I added scans and rescans for all the COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS discography (except for the OTHER section). I also added mirror download links and icons. Most of the work I did was fix some HTML codes and transfer all the images from Photobucket to my server since Photobucket is not reliable to me anymore...

However, I have (sort of) bad news.
COTD FAN will be moving servers soon. So the website will be not available randomly. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll let everyone know when everything will be stable again.

If your are curious, here are the upcoming updates I will be working on:
- photos of the CDs
- misheard/romaji lyrics
- guitar chords/tabs
- translations

Thanks for waiting patiently.

Please continue to support COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS, NARASAKI, AND KANNO!

NARASAKI composed and arranged two songs for Crush Tears! I think the vocalist is one of the voice actresses from the anime, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

I finally added scans of Breastroke II onto the website.

small COTD FAN update

Hey COTD FANs,

It's been a LONG TIME since I last made actual updates to COTD FAN.
I only added scans from Sadesper Record's Externalization 1 and A Sort of Sound Track for U.F.O..
I also organized the BAND section so it's a lot better to look through now. I also cleaned up the GALLERY section a bit.

The reason why the updates are taking so long is that I'm trying to clean up all the sloppy html codes and I want to transfer all the images from Photobucket to my web server. I dislike Photobucket because they end up shrinking my images and after a long time, they'll stop linking the images due to "account inactivity." I don't want to keep dealing with that in the future so I'm going to move the images to my account and even re-scan some stuff (since Photobucket shrunk them).

I apologize for the long wait.
Updates will take a little longer since I'll be starting summer school tomorrow too...

NARASAKI & function code(); [2007]

In 2007, NARASAKI (He went by NACKIE.) helped out the band, function code();, on two of their songs, UNDYING LOVE and (HeroinE);. [5.27.2010 EDIT: NARASAKI also worked on the songs: THE NIGHT FLUTTER, ALICE IN BROKEN WONDERLAND, BETTINA, CAMELLIA, HIGH DIVER and JULIET - Thanks SerialTear!] I think he mainly helped them out with guitar composition. I'm not exactly sure.

NARASAKI photo

I found this Japanese blog while searching for COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS photos. The blog had a high quality image of NARASAKI (Some of you may recognize the photo from an online interview, but this image in in higher quality.)!
The blog mentions something about ordering a photo along with THE BREASTROKE II (according to Google Translate)... As far as I'm concerned, the official COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS' website never said anything about selling photos. If anyone could translate the blog entry, please do!

NARASAKI photo:

梁山泊 [2001]

In 2001, COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS was on a TV show called, 梁山泊 (Ryo Zang Pak).
I think it's a comedy game show.
Only
the members, NARASAKI, KANNO, and ICHIMAKI, and another band (I forgot their name) were on the game show.
The videos USED TO BE on YouTube, but due to copyright laws, the videos were taken down.
I tried to find more information on this episode, but none were recorded online.

From what I remember from watching the videos, COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS and the other band were asked questions and some were personal. After all the points were added up, in the end, the other band won.

If anyone has any information on this episode and TV show, please let me know!

Yahoo! Japan Auctions [July 2007]

I'm sorry for not posting, everyone! I've been quite busy...

This is old news, but I've been meaning to post this information up.
Back in July 2007, NARASAKI was auctioning off some guitars and equipment. Unfortunately, I was stupid and did not save the photos of his equipment. :( SORRY!

There is also this Japanese website that has a photo of one of NARASAKI's auctioned off items.
http://natalie.mu/music/news/2471

From what I remember, the items were ONLY AVAILABLE for Japan.
I also remember that one black guitar that had a small sticker of a cute bunny on the head of the guitar. hahaha
I'm very jealous of the people who have those items now...
If anyone has one of NARASAKI's items, please share some photos! :)

possible origin of COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS name?

Some fans have wondered how COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS' band name originated. In the KGNU interview with NARASAKI, he stated:

"The name was given by one of the original members without too much thinking, but it implies our intention towards something deeper."

They were also previously know as COALTAR MAN (as seen on their demo tapes).

In the JROCK interview, NARASAKI stated:

"At the beginning we were called COALTAR MAN, but at the same time, there was already an organization of that name. A guitarist, who sometimes plays with us, (przeforsowal?) name that we have today."

(Please excuse the poor Polish-to-English translation Google Translate provided...)

It's nothing super special or anything, but here's an interesting thought...
Leland (aka Lostman), COTD FAN staff researcher, found an interesting website that had a collection of Japanese urban legends and one of them involved coal tar.

"Coal tar was used as insulation for electric wires in the early days. Somehow, rumors began to circulate that the thick dark insulating substance was derived from the blood of innocent young women. At the height of the rumors, many virgins were afraid to go outside, fearing they would have their blood stolen for use on the wires."

Source: [http://pinktentacle.com/2010/02/urban-legends-from-meiji-period-japan/]

Do you think COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS' were possibly inspired by this urban legend?
Feel free to start a discussion.
